PostSubject: Windows Media Center Customization   Wed Aug 03, 2011 2:41 am

Windows Media Center workspretty well out of the box; however I found the need to make a few tweaks tothe software and, in this guide, I include these tweaks you can use.

This guide is from the WindowsMedia Center Customization Series. Learn more about Media Center and find morecustomizations here.

Please note: thisguide involves working with the Windows registry. If you are unfamiliar withworking with the registry, read thisguide first. Pleasebackup all keys you modify so they may be easily restored. I hold noresponsibility for any misconfiguration to your computer.

Enable aUniversal Remote Control

If you use a universalremote control, you may need to enable it. To enable your universal remote:

1. Navigate to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da

2. Change EnableDebounce to 1.

If EnableDebounce does not exist:

1. Create a new DWORD.

2. Name it EnableDebounce.

3. Set the valueto 1.

3. Reboot yourcomputer.

Modify theSkip Ahead/Back Interval

When skipping ahead andback, I found myself clicking the remote too many times; thus, I decided tomodify the interval. To modify the skip ahead/back interval and instant replayinterval:

1. Navigate to:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MediaCenter\Settings\VideoSettings

2. Modify SkipAheadInterval(default is 29000.) A highernumber increases the interval and vice versa.

3. Modify InstantReplayInterval(default is 7000.) A highernumber increases the interval and vice versa.

Note: the number base is inHexadecimal, so be sure to change the Base to Decimal beforemaking changes and change it back to Hexadecimal.

Change theLocation of Recorded TV

Windows Media Center storesrecorded TV on the operating system’s drive. To change the storage location ofrecorded TV:

1. Navigate to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MediaCenter\Service\Recording

2. Modify RecordPath to the pathwhere you’d like to store TV. i.e. E:\RecordedTV
